No one is quite sure how Rafael Nadal does what he does certainly
not former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski, who calls the world No. 1
"superhuman."

Nadal switched to grass three days after winning the French Open on
clay and played like the Wimbledon champion that he is, while moving
into the third round of the Aegon Championships here at the Queen's
Club.

The transition from clay to grass is considered the most awkward
adjustment a tennis player has to make, but you would never have known
it as the Spanish left-hander made all the right alterations to his
game hitting the serve a little harder, taking the ball earlier,
playing higher up on his baseline.

Yep, he really rolled over quali Ebden! :)

Come on now though.....the transition isn't at all what is used to be...and
Nadal was a bit rusty at that! He looked very happy and in good spirits
though....as he always seems to be when he ditches Toni for a tournie! ;)

Not sure who watched this match... I watched it online and Rafa made a
lot of simple errors... shots wide, short, long... when he missed he
didn't discriminate... and he definately doesn't go for all the balls
wide any longer... not like he used to... 6-4, 6-4 sets the same he
broke early in both sets and then just held to get the win... strange
to see him making so many more UEs compared to a year ago and
before... very much like Roger post 2007...

He has that cheaters edge though that he always relies upon.

That's only your hopeful thinking. His errors were because of the
surface/balls change. He just came from RG final...and plays a very
different game there.

Well, I can understand that. When your under the microscope with a
family member it's good to get away from them now and then.

Patrick, I remember you said that about him before the FO. I didn't
get a chance to see the semis or finals of the French but what I
remember of Nadal prior to that was exactly what ur saying now.

TT, look at you, your defending Nadal like he was your significant
other. All Patrick was doing was making a comment about the state of
Nadal which I tend to agree.

And I was replying his post. I don't think Nadal is declining at 25,
straight after winning RG. Nothing wrong with voicing my opinion.

You defend Nadal like he was your significant other?

No, he's missing more.

Just as Federer began his decline at around 26, Nadal is starting to
show the characteristics
of post-peak play.  Uncharacteristic loss of concentration.  Increased
unforced error count, less
consistency on the groundstrokes.

Like Federer he'll still have success post-peak but I doubt he'll have
3 more years of success.  2012 will be a tough
year for Nadal.  2011 will be his last chance to more than his annual
FO romp.

that's because, as whisper said, this Wimbledon 'grass' is more like
clay painted green. Has been since 2004 or so.

if you ever want evidence that Patrick was 'trolling' read the above
post.

agreed, the transition wasn't anything perfect from what I saw and I
was there live watching it.
