I will try to explain, but it is not so easy.
It is correct that the players obtain Bonus Points if they qualify
for a Grand Slam or any ATP Tour tournament as follows - half the
points awarded to the second round loser in the main tournament +
additional Bonus Points for each qualifying round if his opponent is
ranked in the top200 (see bonus points table).
There is a new regulation since January 1 1997 for the Grand Slam and
ATP Tour Championship Tournaments (Super 9 and Double-Up week
Tournaments). Here the players earn Tournament and Bonus Points in the
qualifying even if they do not qualify for the main draw. It looks like
1st round loser - 1 Tournament Point + 0 Bonus Points
2nd round loser - 1/4 the points allocated to a second round main
draw loser + Bonus Points if his opponent is in Top 200.
- there are only two rounds of qualifying
Grand Slam Tournaments
1st round loser - 1 Tournament Point + 0 Bonus Points (since Wimbledon)
2nd round loser - 3 Tournament Points + Bonus Points if opponent Top 200
3rd round loser - 5 Tournament Points + Bonus Points if opponent Top 200
- there are three rounds of qualifying
