If you bring your stuff to Placid like I did from Buffalo,NY Do not do it
thinking you will have great sailing on the lake.  The lake is very pretty
just not that good for sailing.  I would just bring a long board and a few
sails.  Save more space for bikes, canoe, roller blades, hiking stuff.   If you
go to Lake George the sailing is some what better I liked sailing the
northern end of it very very pretty and fairly good wind.  Saratoga Springs
does have a sailing club But I do not know the web site the sailing is good
their also.  And last but the best sailing in the area is Thousand Islands.
My fav. in the islands is on Wolf Island at the mouth of the Saint Lawrence
on the South west shore of this island is one of the best beaches anyone
could ask for"great wind, great rollers, sand, grass, camping,AND the sun sets
down into the lake as you look out the beach picture perfect"!

LAKE PLACID WINDSURF SITES??

the web sites for this area are www.inlandsea.com and
www.rpi.edu/~guidom/adirondack.html

We do have a site in Saratoga but on a southwest we all head for Lake
Champlain since the wind funnels thru the mountains and Nails the
Lake.
We use saratoga lake for afterwork and thermals in Late afternoon.
Sacandaga Lake is very good on a west wind and is now easier to sail
from.
Placid has too many mountains around it so the wind stays up high.

I've only visited there once. As lakes go, Lake Placid is a puddle, and it's
surrounded by mountains and hills....

(and, hey, if it was suitable, it would be called Lake Nukin', not Lake
Placid, right?? A canoe would be better than a board, I bet

In the general area, you'd be much better off heading to Lake Champlain, the
Finger Lakes, or SE Lake Ontario for sailing.
