Need advice - Vela accomodations in Los Barilles

Heading there early Feb 2007, booked with Vela.  Have heard there is quite a
diff in the two hotels Vela offers there.  Which one is the nicer?  Not
looking for luxury, quiet and clean are the criteria.

Tnx

p.s.  Any others heading there for week 1 or 2 of Feb ?

The Palmas de Cortez property is the nicer one with a bigger, more
elaborate pool more ammenities and the rooms are nicer too - either
newer buildings or recently renovated.
Last winter the pool there was not heated yet though while the one at
Playa del Sol was. I would guess 90-95% of the people sailing at Vela
stay at Playa del Sol since that is where the Vela center is located.
The rooms are more basic, but do seem to get better every year. New
landscaping and kids playground and a wi-fi signal do bring it a bit
closer in standard to Palmas de Cortez.
If you prefer total privacy when you are not sailing or*** out at
the Vela center and like the nicer accommodations (and are willing to
pay more for them), go to Palmas de Cortez. It's only about 5 minutes
walking. If you like the windsurf community atmosphere that comes from
filling an entire hotel with windsurfers (the only people you meet at
the pool bar and restaurant will be fellow windsurfers) and if you
would like the convenience of walking out of your room right into the
windsurf center, go to Playa del Sol. If you have kids, I would
defnitely recommend Playa del Sol.

Pretty accurate assessment.  Playa del Sol was great when I was there
six years ago.  Glad to hear that things have gotten even better.

Thanks all

For the nearly $500 difference in price, it sounds like we'll stick
with Playa del Sol.  We tend not to spend much time in our room
anyways.  If the noise gets to us, we can try earplugs or extra
cervesa!

Cheers
