where to learn windsurfing in California

I will be in California (San Francisco, Sacramento or maybe San Diego)
for a couple of days begin of April.

Do you know of any good places to learn windsurfing?
Do you have any addresses/phone numbers where I could:

- attend a beginners class / or find someone to teach me
- rent the equipment (board, sail , wet suit ....)

What would the temperature be?

Chris.

There are 2 that I know of Spinnaker Sailing at Shoreline Park,
Mountainview, they're great for beginner instruction, located on a `inland
lake. Also I believe their is a school that instructs at Candlestic on the
Bay. Sorry no numberes though.

Spinnaker Sailing's number is 415-965-7474.  You can also get instruction
from Jeff Krafts (California Sailboards?) who has a large van parked at
Candlestick Park during the season.  You might also see if they're still
offering lessons at Lake Merced in San Francisco, and I believe they also
offer lessons at the Berkeley Marina, Lake Merritt in Oakland, and Foster
City Lagoon in Foster City.

I used Spinnaker Sailing cause I live in the South Bay.  I was happy with
their beginner program, and Shoreline is a very non-threatening
environment.  I think the first class is around $100 for 2 days of
instruction (Sat. and Sun. mornings 9-1 o'clock).

Have fun.

Prices for the five skill levels are as follows:

Skill Level 1 (Basic) $120.00 for two 4-hour sessions
Skill Level 2 (Adv. Basic) $60.00 for one 4-hour session
Skill Level 3 (Intermediate) $100.00 for two 3-hour sessions
Skill Level 4 (Adv. Intermediate) $120.00 for two 3-hour sessions
Skill Level 5 (Advanced) $120.00 for two 3-hour sessions

You need to bring your own equipment for levels 4 and 5.

There is also a high wind clinic with two 5-hour sessions for $150.00.

In addition they offer Waterstarting on Tuesday evenings and Jibing on
Monday evenings.  Two consecutive 2-hour sessions, a week apart, for
$80.00.

Why do I know all this?  Because I'm finally going to give in and take
some lessons.  I think the evening sessions look like the best deal for
me.

There's also Lake Del Valle near Livermore. I got my 12 year old son
hooked
on the sport after three days of lessons. He's now crusing the bay waters
of San Diego.
