NP Diablo 7.2 - opinions?

Post by jfee.. » Thu, 17 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Hi,
I am thinking of buying a 7.2 Diablo for my Naish 8'11".
I would appreciate the opninion of anyone who has used
this sail. In particular, I am interested to know how
it compares to similarly sized Supersonics (which I found
sort of gut-less) and V8s (which I generally like).

thanks.

Hi Jeff,

I've just got a 7.2, but I've only used it once and I don't think I've
mastered the tuning yet. It got better as I played with the downhaul and
outhaul.

They don't have as much low end grunt as a V8, but I find they have a
bit more control when overpowered, and are easier to rig, gybe etc.
Which is actually my personal preference. I've never used a Supersonic,
but the Diablo is designed to have the higher performance of the two.

I used it my on an AHD 277 freeride (I'm almost 95kg/210lbs) and it
almost felt a bit big for the board - that could just be me though.

I suggest popping over to http://www.neilprydemaui.com and picking the
brains of Kevin he really knows NP stuff inside out (as well he should
;-). Lots of people over there seem to be familiar with Naish boards as
well.

Cheers
Anton

I have the 7.7 Diablo, and I am sure I discussed it here fairly recently. Do
a search for "diablo" and see what you find. To recap: I love it. It has
plenty of power, is easy to pump, easy to gybe and tack, and handles the
higher winds well. It is definitely more stable than the Supersonic (but it
costs more!).

NP Diablo 7.2 - opinions?

Hi, My name is John. I am the california rep for NEILPRYDE.
I have a 7.2 Diablo and I really like it.  Everyone who trys it likes
it. If you want power, go with the V8.  A cam sail will have more low
end.  But for the board you are using (fairly small for a 7.2 sail) I
would go with the RAF because of the handeling.  I reccomend V8 for big
guys who want POWER.  I like the SUPERSONIC in the 5.4 to 6.7, and I
like the DIABLO in the larger sizes 6.7 and up. (6.7 I could go either
way)  The DIABLO has 2 more battens which help hold shape in the larger
sizes.

Diablo is blazing fast and really stable.  It has good low end power
(you can always pump)

..." a cam sail will have more low-end"

I can't say I agree with this statement at all, JB..

I believe that the new camless sails have a better low end than the cammed
ones...  especially in the larger sizes...

...well, we have all been through this discussion several times, and just
recently, too...

So.......

I'll stick to camless, and you stay with cams....

 Free choice = happy customers/sailors.
