F2 Sunset Slalom volume?

Post by Jean-Charles van Zuyle » Sat, 15 Apr 2000 04:00:00

Does anybody know what the volume of a 1986 F2 Sunset Slalom is? I have one
and I'm curious. All the graphics and writing on it have worn off.

Thanks,

Jean-Charles

Don't nail me on this one , but i think the Sunset Slalom was reshaped
at some time in the 80's, could well have been after the 96 model. While
the newer one (which then existed unchange into the mid 90s, only strap
and mastfoot position were moed back over time) does have 103 - 105
liters, the older one allegedly has slightly under 100 l. As far as i
can remember (seen the beast in action 10 years ago) the older one has a
more pronounced vee in the front section. Anyhow, it's a classic,
versatile board which isn't too far behind current shapes with respect
to ease of use, speed and planing (on reaches and with reasonable sail
sizes). should also be a good choice for 2D freestyle, for jumping it
may be a bit heavy.

Of course modern boards can take larger fins and go better with larger
sails,on broad and beam reaches and feel much looser / faster.

The Sunset Slalom (1988) was my first shortboard, I loved that thing to
death.  I bet it would sail just fine nowadays for reaching around on a
6.0.  Very similar to the E-rock in size and shape.  103 liters.

I second this. As I recall, my old SS was 105 L.

It was my first short board also. It became my wave board when I lived in
San Diego. I'd sail it at Termoline (SP?) in 10knots of wind with a 6.3.
Ahhhh, fond memories.

They don't make boards like they used to... :-)  The Sunset is awesome
seriously. It planes quicker than my Ride 277 with the same volume and it's
much smoother in chop... and it's almost 15 years old!!!

I've been looking at AHD boards. Now they make them wide and very thin in
the back with the bulk of the volume under the mast foot... JUST LIKE THE
SUNSET.

Sails really sucked back then though... anyway.

Happy Sailing,

Jean-Charles
