Hi . I'm living on the east coast of Canada on Prince Edward Island
where I've just discovered ice sailing.A complete blast I might add.My
question is,can anyone tell me how well carbon masts and monofilm sails
hold up in sub-zero conditions. Many Thanks, Aloha Dave.

I haven't sailed on ice but I'm still sailing in the water. I've
noticied that a layer of ice will form on the sail while sailing but
there seems to be no ill effect later once it has dried off.

I imagine in ice sailing it should be a little better since your sails
would normally be dry. In that state I guess it would take extreme cold
to cause a problem. I've been out in -30 celsius and the sails are still
fine today.

Maybe Bruce could give us his expert opinion.

I've heard that monofilm is OK in cold, as local ice sailors here will
attest.
Avoid older sails with Vinyl windows, as they can be brittle.

As for carbon stuff, who knows ?  I'm sure their warranty would be void...
