ISLA DE MARGARITA

Has anyone been here during September? I'm looking at potentially going
here for a honeymoon. I've heard this is a good windsurfing spot, but
would like opinions from anyone who has been there.
                              Thanx,
                                Thomas

Been there twice, once in Jan and the other time in Feb.  I'm going back
on Feb 10th.  Margarita is great for sailing but for a honeymoon?  It's
not very romantic, but the beer is still cheap.  there is virtually no
nite life (except for Palamor) and September should be Hotter than ... Most
the room I've stayed at didn't have AC.  But it's a great place to sail.

Have you thought about Maui?  Still should be some wind in Sept.

Good luck

Thomas,

I just came back from Cumana, Venezuela (my wife's hometown); it is on the
mainland.  My wife's aunt introduced to me to a few of the locals who were
really into windsurfing.  They took me to some great spots...the wind was
consistently great every day.

They did say that October was the only month when the wind is
inconsistent!  September???? too close to Oct.

Re: luna de miel
I spent my honeymoon in Venezuela and loved it but I was with someone that
knew the area.  True Margarita is small...I always say you can see it in a
day!
FOr a week I think you'd be OK. Juan El Griego, La Laguna Restinga, Playa
El Agua, El Coche (la isla) are good day trips. Then 2-3 days
windsurfing...

One of the guys I met has a brother in Margarita who is also a fanatic.

They had no problems with me using their boards.

I love Venezuela! been there twice a year for the last 9 years!  If you're
going for more than a week I would suggest Puerto la Cruz, with a two
day/one night visit to Margarita.  The ferry is about 2 1/2 hour and costs
(I think) about $10.00.  I don't know if the ferry service exist...but a
20 minute flight is about $30-40.

Saludos,

Tom (In Toronto we anxiously awaiting spring.  Where are you from?

Once again E-mail me if you'd like more info.
