Alaska Wave spots?

Alaska Wave spots?

Post by Alan Whit » Sat, 18 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I have a sister who lives near Anchorage. She keeps inviting me up to sail at Turnagin Arm, but
I'm kind of into ocean sailing. Are there any wave sailing spots near Anchorage?

Hi Alan,

The only thing I can remember seeing about wavesailing in Alaska was in the
Volume 15, #1 issue of the Windtracks Journal.  They may be available through
American Windsurfer (no, let's not get into that whole comparison of the mags
again).

The site was Yakutat Point, and it sounded pretty gnarly, and accessible only
by water or air, (but how did the van in the pictures get there?)  The
sailors were Chris Wyman, Kai Katchadourian, Elliot Leboe, and Sean Ordonez.
Glenn Dubock was the photographer.  You might be able to contact one of those
guys through their sponsors if you wanted more info. Chris...Naish Sails,
Slingshot Kiteboarding, Sean...North Sails, Elliot...Airush Kites, Liquid
Force Kiteboards, Kai...Simmer Sails (I think).

Sail with a buddy.

Jon
