1993 equipment starting to show up already

I think I've seen some of next year's equipment already.  On Sunday Steve
Yong of City Front Sailboards was sailing on a Mistral Explosion with
a two-camber monofilm North sail.

I asked Steve what kind of sail it was and he didn't say anything for
a while, then finally said, "recreational sail".  I asked, "Not a Prisma?",
and he said, "Not a Prisma".  The outline looked sort of like a Gaastra
Slalomfoil Pro and it was definitely flatter than a '92 Prisma.  Maybe
it's a new Infinity.  His sail was pretty big so maybe they put two cambers
in the large sizes.

The Mistral "Explosion" looks like a big course/slalom board, with a thick,
bulbous tail.  It said "288" on it, so I think that works out to about
9'-6".

Most vendors send out a few sails and boards from the '93 series at this
time of year. But the large scale production haven't started yet.

"Explosion" is Mistral's new big cource/slalom board, and yes I have seen
it too. I might have to sell my old Equipe, now???

Two weeks ago at the St Francis Invitational Ted Huang and Dave Buemi used
the explosion in some of the races and did quite well.  Ted finished 2nd
overall behind Trevor Baylis using a combination of boards:  IMCO, Equipe
Explosion and an Energy with Wind Wing sails.

the Explosion helped the racers get through the lulls.

I raced the 2-day regatta on my Mistral IMCO and was able to finish 8th out
of 40 entrants.  Long boards still work well!
