Swap Mistral Screamer II 280cm for Explosion II 288cm ?

I am considering swapping my Screamer II 280cm for a Mistral Explosion
II 288cm.

My thoughts for doing this are:

1. The Screamer is not big enough even with a Pryde 6.7 Mk iv to get
planning on those marginal days which we seem to get so many of.

2. The Screamer is too big for the days when a 5.8m is just about right
before it gets too wavy.

I love the way the Screamer is so easy to gybe and I gather the
Explosion II 288 is just as good - opinions please.

The Explosion II is about 120 litres volume - will the extra 18 litres
and say a 7.3m sail make that much difference?

If I go for this swap then I will probably also trade my Stinger for
something around 270 - what would be a good match for bump and jump
conditions?

The 268 screamer is really a nice board for 6.0 & below-- it handles chop
better than the screamer II.  You might consider going for the 298 and
have something that really does well in lighter wind with a mid 7 sail.
The 288 will work well if you are around 160 lbs, but if closser to 190 lbs
the 298 might be a better choice.

Swap Mistral Screamer II 280cm for Explosion II 288cm ?

It sounds like you're trying to get by with 2 boards.   The ideal
solution may be to keep the 2 boards you have and get a 3rd
dedicated light wind board around 290-300cm, 120 - 135 liters.
I have 3 boards and my 1997 Screamer 278 (same as your Screamer II, I
believe) is my middle board.  It's also my favorite
board and I couldn't imagine trading it away.  It's the perfect size
for me- I'm 6 ft 1 inch (185 centimeters) and 180 lbs. (80 kg).
I use it with sails between 6.0 and 7.0 which for me is the most
common sailing conditions that I sail in.  I use my Explosion I
(128 liters) for the really light days and my Electron (88 liters) for
when the going gets tough.

My primary board is also a screamer278.  I've been wanting to
add a board above and below for similar reasons.  Although I
could probably get by with 2 boards, I love sailing the screamer.
I'm thinking 295/298, 130+ litres on the high side but would have
thought that the electron was a bit much overlap on the low
side.  I'm also about 180lbs.
I'm very happy with a 5.5 on the screamer but when it gets
much windier the board seems a bit big.  My target for the
smaller board would be something to handle a 5.5 on down
with a sweet-spot of 4.5-5.0.  I'm thinking this is something
in the 80l-85l range ... 8'6ish.
Just waiting for the Hatteras shops to open back up!

Steve, what sails work best for you on the electron.
