Hi,
No more Sean Ordonez, no more Dave McCormick, no more Bill Hansen. Is
John Chao really that pathetic?
Cheers,
Cliff

Sounds like Don McCormick has long moved on to more esoteric pursuits in
Asia...however, it must be a punch in the stomach to have his signature
Gulftech RDMs on the market with only a 90 day warranty...especially,
when carbon booms that he manufactured 10 years ago are still being used...
I have talked with Sean Ordonez within the last 12 hours...he's well
beyond the things at Drops (and Quatro for that matter) that have
(Sean Ordonez Shapes) label...he has been busting a nut in Japan and
China, and it's getting closer to fruition...
He'll have a killer website up soon...
I've seen the layout and it's pretty kewl...
I've got a rough info page up with some pics on my site in the
interim...and fresh out of the oven are the latest plugs for his
production epoxy SUP's (stand up paddleboards boards)...
The SO 10'10" "Big Blue" and the SO 11'11" "Big Red"...like our PU
customs, they will have a mast track...

Fortuitously, I'll be working with an ex-WW manager, helping to
distribute Sean's exciting new board line...

Windwing Black Diamonds were my first "real" sails - several of which
are still going strong in the hands of others (I sometimes wish I had
them back). And the wife and I are still using 5 Gulftech booms that
Don built in Corpus, the oldest of which must be about 15 years by
now.
I've never met Sean, but have heard nothing but good things about
him. And I still remember discussions I had with Bill and Don over
beers. These two are stand-up guys, who gave more to the sport out
of the enjoyment than over any monetary concerns. They have a
passion that people like John Chao just don't understand. All he
seems to see is dollars - as evidenced by his business practices.
I guess that to be a windsurfing retailer or manufacturer, you almost
have to expect to be financially poor, but spiritually rich. Don and
Bill will always be welcome at my campfire, and I'd love to meet Sean
some day.

Talking about which: the US snowboarding team seems to be doing okay...

I am curious what Don says off the record. Fellow Texans want to know.
Email me if you need to.
Mark
If Don isn't willing to post it here, it's probably not something he
wants getting around via email unless he's doing the emailing....
Though that's not to say it might not make good campfire discussion
down at the coast sometime. ;-)
