Ouch!

Ouch!

Well, it was bound to happen....

One of my supplies just sent out notification that the price of carbon
booms is going up....  Almost an 11% jump on the Formula booms.  The
other boom and mast companies can't be far behind.

Ouch...

I'm not sure this is correct, but when I read this article in WS mag, I
sort of saw it as a good thing. I didn't believe we would ever see the
price jump because of the relatively small production scale. I figured
it would be a short time reduction in supply and the small quantities
would still have been obtainable.

According to the mag the increase in demand is due to increased usage
in newer airplanes. I would now think that production supply will get
going and soon make the material more common at a cheaper price.
Obviously windsurfing isn't going to generate enough profit to
streamline the manufacturing process and make it cheaper, but certainly
the airline industry could. I still wouldn't be suprised if it ends up
getting cheaper in the long run.

I don't know much about how it is made, or the production process, so I
could be waaaaay off. I'll admit I was skeptical of the article all
along though. Sounded more like they needed something to write about :p

Pyro,

I took the same though out of the article,
Maybe with this increased demand,  the production side will increase,
and though we may suffer a 2 or 3 year price hike,  long term though
this could be really good for carbon prices and quality.
