I'm not sure this is correct, but when I read this article in WS mag, I
sort of saw it as a good thing. I didn't believe we would ever see the
price jump because of the relatively small production scale. I figured
it would be a short time reduction in supply and the small quantities
would still have been obtainable.
According to the mag the increase in demand is due to increased usage
in newer airplanes. I would now think that production supply will get
going and soon make the material more common at a cheaper price.
Obviously windsurfing isn't going to generate enough profit to
streamline the manufacturing process and make it cheaper, but certainly
the airline industry could. I still wouldn't be suprised if it ends up
getting cheaper in the long run.
I don't know much about how it is made, or the production process, so I
could be waaaaay off. I'll admit I was skeptical of the article all
along though. Sounded more like they needed something to write about :p
