Olympic Champ Lee Lai Shan won the women's section of the Hong Kong Open.
She placed first in nine of the ten races. Her other result was a second.
Her greatest rival, Li Ke from communist China, did not take part in the
event.
Lee's next ambition is to win a gold at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok.
The Asiad is the only event she has not won - having lost to Li Ke at least
once (I think twice).

At last, someone who knows that it's Lee Lai Shan and NOT Lai Shan Lee,
as the announcer of the results in Atlanta (and many others) mistakenly
believe. I think I'm right in saying that the surname comes first in
Chinese, as it does in many Asian languages. Although perhaps there are
some Chinese sailors out there who can correct me on this point?

Anyway, since she did win a gold medal I guess she deserves to have
people in the boardsailing world get her name right.

Well, Jake don't you know. After all you are a sports writer based in HK
working for ACTION ASIA.

"Used to work" for Action Asia, actually. Who is "Reader" with a very
interesting email address?

Back to the subject of Lee Lai Shan, it seems no one can get her name
right. I just picked up the latest issue of the Aussie magazine
Freesail, and they have her as Lee Lai Sham.

I also read in a newspaper that Lee Lai Shan may appear in an episode of
Baywatch. Does anyone know any more about this? Kelly Slater watch out.
