Do the manufactures follow the seasons around the world and release
accordingly?  With the Internet making the world is a lot smaller,
maybe everyone should release world wide every July.  :-)    If a
manufacture made major changes to a line, seems it would make a tough
sell to someone who could only get the '05 gear..do they get the '05
or wait for the new and improved '06 gear!  Especially if they only
had to wait a 2-3 months before the new stuff is released.  But on the
flip side, waiting for closeouts has its $$ benefit too!

Hey Brian,

That's an interesting link -- and a very active forum!

Not that I'd be in the market for one, but the white monofilm (or other
material?) on the Warp looks wild.

Were you waiting for wind at Carolina Beach this morning? :-) Hope it's
arrived by now.

Unfortunately, stayed in Raleigh this weekend.  The wind really never
got up past 12-14  at the beach.  :-(

The Warp does look wild.   I've always shyed away from white colored
sails as they seem to dirty quickly.  One ride in the basin would ruin
it for life!  :-)

As far as I know they do.... I live in Asutralia and our new gear is
"released" (as in we are aware of it) about July, and the first new models
come out in about Sept.... about 2.5 - 3 months before summer. Our season in
WA starts about Nov for most ppl.

Very generally, sails are released at two separate times:  Wave sails and
short boom free-ride/style sails come out in July or so, with cammed sails
about the same time or a bit later, but race sails often will not release
until December or January of the actual model year to wring out the most R&D
prior to the close of the FW calendar year.   Each manufacturer might do
things a bit differently, but many high volume sail brands keep prices down
(ha!) by manufacturing in gross, making all of one sail or size, then on to
the next.  When a sail appears in a particular country has a lot to do with
the importers and customs, I think.

The July date was, at least in the past when windsurfing was still an
"industry" to speak of, coupled on the ISPO Summer sports good fair
(only open to dealers) in Munich end of June. ISPO still is big,
windsurfing industry less so and thus this may not be true anymore.
