It doesn't surprise me as ignorance is so rampant in the U.S.  All one
has to do would be read these message  boards to understand it.  When
your role models are atheletes like WSers, baseball players,
basketballers, and snowboarders, it doesn't give you much motivation to
learn how to read correctly.  At least almost every NFL player has a
college degree.

LOL. "Windsurfers" as role models?  That's pretty funny.

Oh, it's not so funny when you come to a board like this and find that
those that aren't quite as knowledgeable as others when it comes to the
finer points of the sport become fair game for the sick kids.

"....ignorance is so rampant in the U.S....read these message  boards

"At least almost every NFL player has a college degree."

Which is far more than can be said for you, Brucie, as your substandard
spelling and English skills clearly demonstrate (speaking of rampant
ignorance).  One wonders if you ever made it through ninth grade.

BTW, big guy, you've become a celebrity on boards.co.uk.  They've been
ragging on sinbad again.  Perhaps they needed a good laugh, and you
came to mind.  Even though you've been banned for a month, they
remember you when it comes to, well, rampant ignorance.

After looking at that article in the link, I want to add some comments.
Often the areas with the highest immigration will be those with the
greatest amount of college educated people.  The assumption that having
a college degree puts you in the brainy class seems also rather stupid.
Take Bill Gates, the guy who seems to have created the brainiest city
i.e. Seattle today.  He dropped out of Harvard and did not earn a
college degree.  Areas with low literacy aren't necessarily areas
devoid of college graduates since higher education often correlates
with emigration.  In other words in order to optain an education one
must leave a low literacy area.  Once an individual does that the
chances the individual will not return to a low literacy area are
great.

Bruce: Your logic is flawed.   Using Bill Gate's decision to leave
college (and thus not have a earned college degree despite his clear
intelligence) has nothing to do with whether or not having a college
degree puts you in a brainy class.  What you said is like trying to
prove a conclusion for an entire group by illustrating the opposite
conclusion with respect to a person in another group. In other words,
observing that someone without a college degree has brains says nothing
about whether or not the class of college graduates has brains.

You certainly are right about brain drain in smaller cities, but I
don't think that applies to San Francisco.  San Fran is one of the most
culturaily attractive cities in the country, if not the world.  It's a
real gem by pretty much anyone's standards, and it's shine is more than
a veneer.  That so many windsurfers move to San Fran for the
combination of work and sailing opportunities says a lot.  In fact, my
windsurfing partner is moving back to  San Fran after moving to Boston
four years ago -in part b/c of the sailing, in part b/c of the
available work. and in part b/c many of his friends never left!  His
wife has a bachelor's degree and is a sucessful small business owner
and he has an M.B.A. with a focus on international trade.  Two very
bright people moving back to the city in question.

He may have dropped out of Harvard but how many of us could have been accepted
in the first place? Certainly not me.

I don't know about that; you're a pretty bright guy, and you've done some
really nice work on those cars!

Brucie (or is it Robby?), how does any of this explain YOUR situation?
You're clearly an ignorant fool with no education whatsoever.  (How
many multiple misspellings and grammatical errors in your posts?)  You
have no college education and "prabably" no high school education.  And
East Falmouth is an area of low literacy -- but you're too dense to
recognize that.  Perhaps you fit right in.

Seattle's the brainiest city?  Gee, big guy, I thought you claimed
ownership of the People's Republic of Cambridge, which calls itself
home to Harvard, MIT, and others.

Brucie, you got a***loose.

Not sure how you are applying that to the listing in the ink but what
was even more annoying (bad word but I can't find the right one to
describe it) was the Los Altos/Mountainview area of the peninsula is
one of the more affluent areas on the San Francisco peninsula...many
doctors and byproducts of the dot com boom due to its proximity to the
Silicon Valley.  One would think the attention to detail and simple
common sense would prevail but alas...it seems not.  The Bay Area is
also a huge melting pot and I think the faux pas was just a language
barrier issue...though I don't buy that simple excuse for much more
than commom Mistakes.  Common sense would tell an individual to locate
the appropriate keys on the keyboard and duplicate the spelling...not
just type what one think one read.  I see far too often common sense
has gone by the wayside...perhaps we need to call it uncommon sense.

On a side note when voicing opinions on literacy you should make every
effort to correctly spell...it's obtain...not optain.

uncommonly yours...
