DFW Airport ??

Post by Rick Purvi » Tue, 18 Jun 1996 04:00:00

I'll be in Dallas near DFW later this month, and am wondering if it makes
sense to drag my stuff from Austin.  Is Grapevine a reasonable place to
go?  Directions to the local "spots" would be appreciated.  How's your
wind this time of year?  Austin has degenerated to 10-15 MPH at best.

Thanks,   Rick

Keep your stuff at home in Austin...   It looks like Dallas is finished
until the fall storms.  Of course we're hoping for our "annual" July 4th
4.5m blowout, but other than that, I think our incredible spring has
drawn to a close.

BTW, I just added up my sailing log for this year and counted 37 days and
about 2/3 of them on my 5.1m or smaller.  What a year!

Hate to pop your bubble, but the wind season is pretty much over about
now in Dallas. You may get lucky with the 4th of July scenario (knock on
epoxy). We have had 20-30 3 out of 4 years in Dallas. Some kind of a
freak situation, but if it works go with it.

Grapevine, Lewisville, or Ray hubbard are good lakes. Grapevine is
closest to the Airport, Lewisville has too many boats on it.

Grapevine, Go North on 121 slightly past 635, and look for a hotel on
the left (I think its the Hilton) go west towards that hotel. You will
hit a road that runs somewhat diagonal to 121, and is the frontage road
for the Hilton. Hang a left (heading SW now) and go about 2 miles or so.
Look for the Grapevine golf course signs, as well as Corps of Engineers
signs. Hang a right, this will eventually take you over the Dam. Turn in
to the park on your left after you have crossed the Dam. This will leave
you on the NE corner of the lake. From my several years in Dallas
however, I think you will be lucky to sail that time of year.
