A humble request to those who reply to posts without including at least the
referenced post(s).  Please include the prior post; Whether you top reply or
bottom reply at least include the reference.  Maybe some readers do not
allow this, but if possible it would ease reading.

Thanks.

Hi Dan,

I am guilty... problem is my ISP stopped using my newsreader so I have
gone to google (as some would say, I'm a "bottom feeder").  Reply box
in google does not include the referenced post.... if I have the time I
just copy & paste it.... it's a hassle, so I don't usually do it.
Sorry.

Yes you can Pete...  I'm doing it now.

Instead of hitting the "reply" link, hit the "show options" link for
the post you're replying to.  Then hit the "reply" link.  It quotes...

So you can top post a reply....

It's all good.

you should be able to use whatever newsreader you want. your isp does
not have any control over this.

But the ISP does have control over what newsgroups it carries.
That's the problem Pete is suffering from - lack of a good news
server.  He's having to WEB it.  Which does suck.

I WEB it at the shop simply because I'm too lazy to deal with the
SWBELL B.S.

I have been successful at getting groups added. He should contact his
ISP tech people to see what procedures are in place for requesting
additions.

I'm with Glenn,

When I got Comcast (who contracts thru giganews) they didn't have
rec.windsurfing,  (the Horror!!!)  I asked about it, and in less than a week
there it was.

well, that may be, but it's not how he described the problem...

anyway if the newsfeed is the problem, a cheap alternative is teranews.com
i think you pay a one time $5 fee and you get access to their "free" server,
forever. total download is limited, but if you're only reading text groups,
you'll be fine.

i paid my $5 years ago, and use it as a backup when my isp newsfeed goes
down.

their news server seems great, better than most completely free servers - i
think that on some of those you can't post. anyway, it's a good deal for $5.
web-based usenet pretty much sucks.

I seem to remember reading that Pete's news service was totally
dropped.  But then I've slept several times in the last week.

It was actually a change with SuperNews... think they just started
charging the ISP's for the newsreader service, so gorge.net (my ISP)
dropped 'em.  Oh well, only thing I really need newsreader service for
is posting here for my "tharapy" sessions :)

Come and get it... more bait & switch for ya WARDOG !!!

Maybe not how he described it before.  But it's how he's describing
it now.  I'm most certainly not motivated enough to sort it all out.
It's really not THAT important.

YMMV
