As a past orgainizer and racer I've wondered if racers would prefer

1.  A $20 entry fee for a 2 day event, with no T-shirt, lunches,
           trophies or party?

OR

2.  The normal $50+ fee with all of the extras mentioned above?

Personally I don't mind paying extra to be catered to if the lunches,
party food and beverages and T-shirts and trophies are nice.  Then again I'd
rather pack my own, I already have 50 car rags, I'm usually sunburnt and to
beat to attend the party, and I don't often win a trophy plus I'd have $30
more to pay for the next event.

Seriously my real concern is $50 entry fees are keeping all but the
***s away...  A local event we had going attracted 91 entries of which
26 were locals in 93 when it was just $30,  this year the entry fee was $45 -
we had only  8 local entries.

When targetting local people, the cheaper probably gets better
attendance.  Generally, I prefer to have at least lunches included.  Let
people know what you get for the money, and it reduces complaints.

For 2-day regattas, I have paid $100 and got a)lunches, dinner,
prizes&t-shirt, b) races only.

I enjoy racing (took it up this year after 14? years windsurfing) so the
amount won't stop me from entering.  It only adjusts complaint volume.

BNR is into Telecommunications.  They have no opinion in this matter.

$20 with a t-shirt.  Bring your own lunch.
