Fix for fiberglass slivers on mast?

I have an epoxy mast that has decided to shed fiberglass every time I rig
and derig. Does anyone know of any solutions to problem? (Besides the
obvious expensive fix.) I will probably try some acrylic or clear enamel
spray.

I think it sounds like its time for a new mast.  I would not trust a mast
that splinters under tension.
