In France, you can basically sail the complete coast down south from the
Camargue to Spain. Prevailing winds (Mistral /Transmontana) are often
side-off or offshore there, with not much waves but there can also be a
southerly Marin. Some spots in the Camargue (St. Maries, La Grnade
Motte, Beauduc) are also good with Transmontana. Rumors suggest that
there are also some good spots to both sides of the spain border. If you
can stand sailing a big, grassy pond, there is always the Etang de
Leucate. To the other side of the Rhone, there are also some quite good
spots: Carro just west from Marseille, if you're into good wave action
(this is no beginner wave spot!). Then, to the east of Marseille: Sanary
sur Mer / Six Fours les Plages with Brutal Beach (aka Plage Richelieu),
a moderate wave venue for Mistral winds, la Coudalere and Le Brusc, both
with slightly bigger waves and more iffy starts than Brutal beach. Then
there is the Hyeres Area / Presqu'isle de Giens with bumpy slalom
conditions and some swells on the west side (l'Allmanare) in Mistral
conditions and superflat water in easterly winds which give moderate
onshore waveriding at the eastside of the peninsula (Bergerie) or 20 km
farther at le Lavandou.
