Spinout problem

Spinout problem

Post by Mark Hein » Wed, 26 May 1993 05:30:26

I am just starting to learn the joys of high speed sailing with my '91 Mistral
New Malibu.  This weekend, I had some problems with spinout.  In the past,
I could blame spinout on waves, etc. (amazing what a little air under the
board can do)  After reading the discussion on spinout in this newsgroup,
I think the problem this time was getting enough weight on the stern of
the board.  (Not much chop)  The fin is the stock Mistral shipped with
the board.

I am wondering if I should move the footstraps farther back on the board.
Or maybe I should adjust the position of the fin?

When I first bought the board, it had all those neat holes for footstraps and
I justed picked some that looked "cool".  My method so far has been
"pick a setting, learn with that setting."  Now maybe I should tune the
board to my sailing.

I am 6'2" and 150 lbs (pretty light).  I was going a little faster
than someone downwind of me and I was trying to point into the wind a bit
to avoid him.  I went swimming before I had a chance to recover from
the spinout.

Thanks for your help.
