MISTRAL AND NORTH SAILS: OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

MISTRAL AND NORTH SAILS: OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Post by Jim Whitne » Thu, 13 Oct 1994 13:19:18

With all the rumors flying around about who bought who,  here's some good
material for starting a long thread.  I was asked by Mistral to post this
press release to the newsgroup so that we could get the official story.
My only relationship to Mistral is that I built their Web Site for them,
so don't send me email asking for more details;  I don't know anymore
than what it says below.  I may add a News section to the Web Site and
stick an html version there in the next day or so
(http://www.sccsi.com/Mistral/mistral_welcome.html).  Without further ado:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-------
For Immediate Release:

Dorsey, MD...Mistral Sports Group SA, Switzerland, and North Sails
Holding GmbH, Germany, are pleased to announce plans to consolidate
worldwide activities under one company.  In a move to consolidate the
windsurfing market,  Mistral has taken this direction to expand both
brands on an international level.

"We will be in a much better position to impact the growth of the
windsurfing industry" stated Rainer Ramelsberger, Managing Director of M1
Sporttechnik GmbH and designated Managing Director of Mistral Sports
Group GmbH, Germany.  "While both brands will remain independent of one
another,  the consolidation of companies will have a positive affect on
the sport and will further product development for both Mistral and North
Sails."

With the legal process not yet completed, no time frame is known for the
proposed consolidation.  Both companies are still in negotiations over
details of the agreement.  "No more details can be given at this point in
time,  however retailers and consumers can rest assured that not only the
two brands,  but the whole industry will benefit from this proposed
consolidation"  said Mr. Ramelsberger.

As both brands will continue to be marketed independently,  orders for
Mistral products should be placed through the normal channels at Mistral.
The deadline for the '95 Mistral Pre-Season Order Program is October 17,
1994.

In further efforts to expand Mistral branded windsurfing products,
Mistral Sports Group SA also announced plans to purchase back the
marketing and distribution rights of Mistral windsurfing hardgoods from
M1 Sporttechnik GmbH,  a subsidiary of Georg Fritzmeier GmbH & Co.  While
the Fritzmeier company will continue to manufacture the windsurfing
hardgoods,  worldwide marketing and product development will return to
Mistral under the proposed move.

"This move is a result of Mistral's efforts to build the brand name
worldwide around its core business which is windsurfing"  commented Mr.
Ramelsberger.  "Without question,  the reintegration of Mistral along
with the consolidation of North Sails will establish a strong alliance
which will rejuvinate the sport of windsurfing."

MISTRAL AND NORTH SAILS: OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Post by Pat J. Pinche » Wed, 19 Oct 1994 21:01:23

I just got this yesterday via fax from Mistral. It's definitely true.
(So much for my previously mentioned "reliable source" that refuted this
rumor. Maybe he was told NOT to confirm it before the press release.)

What do you think about this merger?  The two sound like a good
team, although an expensive one.  Jayne Fenner used to be
sponsored by both Mistral and North - she had Mistral boards and North
Sails when she raced Open Class. I always thought that it was a good
combination.

It did surprise me.  First I tought that it must simply be because josh
Angula signed with Mistral lately, but then I tought there must be
something more since almost every ad of any manufacturer usually uses
photos where *only* *their* product is obvious, so as not to detract the
attention of the consummer.  It must be related to this merger story --
