Do Mistral boards breath?

Post by pole.. » Wed, 18 Feb 1998 04:00:00

Hello,

As a brand-new Mistral Explosion 315 owner, I'm commited to extend its
life time as much as possible... Considering this I have a bunch of
questions to this list, all related to its storage outside the water.

1) What's the best way to keep the board stored?
Horizontal (on the floor), or vertical (leaned on the wall) position?

2) Any problem keeping the board with the fin mounted, touching the
floor?

3) The dealer mentioned that keeping the board inside the carry bag is
not good, since boards DO need to breath. True?

4) He suggested to keep the bag with the zipper opened. Any comments?

Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot and good wind to you all,

Enzo

Don't keep it standing up because the tail will split.

Horizontal should be easier on the board. If you need to lean it
vertically get a foam "cup" for the tail (ask your dealer , the boards
get shipped with foam protection around the nose and tail)

No problem as long as you dont move the board around and scratch the fin
of sit down on the board.

?? Afaik Mistrals normal production boards don't have a vent and so
don't breath. Keeping it in a closed, damp board bag may nevertheless
call for problems, especially in warm climates.

Seems reasonable.

Do Mistral boards breath?

The bad news

All boards seem to breath

Epoxy is micro porus most boards are finshed with varnish or two part paint why
do you think most production boards have the plastic skin it hides damage and
keeps the water out but adds no strenght

Yes keep it out of the bag for long term storage 2 weeks or more

Blag from the shop the polystyrene blocks they are delivered in and stand it on
end

if is not used for a while was the salt of first so it can realy dry

use it and enjoy it with care it should last a while especialy where you live
you lucky old goat

Have fun
Mike

Dont be fooled no board can take lots of abuse unless its a poly board treat it
carefully and it will hopefully last many seasons treat it like the pros and it
will be down the rubbish dump in less than a year

Have fun
