Foward roll attempt

Post by J.R. Gloudema » Thu, 20 Jul 1995 04:00:00

Id like to thank Paul from Maui(?) for the descriptive
fla***er roll instructions he posted.  It inspired me to
attempt a few more today.  Didnt land any but Im getting closer and
I did learn one thing:  STICK those feet into the straps!
On one attempt I rolled but the board decided not follow -
I landed *** sail and was very glad I didnt go thru.

And for something completly different - Is the Folsom dam breakage
going help the ebb flow at Rio?  If so then its one good use for all
of that wasted water.

I have to echo that thanks to Paul. I was about to launch and JR comes up
the ramp, he says, "I'm going to try something stupid today" and he goes
into how he read on the internet how to do a loop in six easy steps. He
has come out of the water to get a helmet. Soon after I launch JR is back
in the water. Well, this gets me going and I'm following him to see if he
really does it. I saw him try twice. On the second try it looked like he
made it half way. Quite a feat. We stop an talk an he says, "its easy, I
didn't even get hurt!" Now I'm fired up to try one. I build up the courage
and hit the ramp, sheet in, start to roll....bail, bail, bail! I lost my
nerve 1/4 the way into to it and let go. JR said, I looked like I was
going-for-it and then just unsheeted and leaned back. Needless to say, I
flew over the boom and into the water. The good thing was that the wipeout
was easy, it didn't hurt at all. So I tried another. I got the rotation
started but was screwed up on the take off an only made it a quarter of
the way again. Well, now that I've tried I'm not so intimidated by the
maneuver and will try plenty more. I'll bet I loop in the next two weeks.
I can't wait for some good ramps. Thanks Paul

Eric (trying to break some bones doing loops)

See Ya at third

JR,

Have been following this thread, I agree, Pauls description was concise.
Tomorrows forecast is 35knots.
I'm too sick to work :-)
Depending on the landings,
I may be back in touch  !

GREAT!  Thanks to Paul, now everyone and their brother/sister is going to
be looping.  So long to the mystique of it all...  [B^)
