Speed in salt/fresh water

Speed in salt/fresh water

This is somewhat off-the-wall, but hey, it's a slow work day...

Has anyone theorized about speed differences in salt water -vs-
fresh water?  You'd float higher in salt water, due to increased
density of the water, so that's less wetted surface.  But would
the friction against the water be higher?

For example, I think the two speed traps in use are:

The Ponds, by Palm Springs, CA (fresh water)
The Ditch(?), somewhere in the Atlantic (salt water)
