Sailing Site near Armonk NY (NY CT Border) for this Weekend?

Post by Craig Brow » Sun, 02 Oct 2005 05:00:27

Have family function to attend to in Armonk, NY this weekend.
I'm from Buffalo NY & will bring my & my wife's windsurf gear.
Can someone please direct me to some good windsurfing sites
(possibly in Long Island Sound near Connecticut)?
Sorry if I didn't post this right as this is the first time
posting to this newsgroup.

Thanks for any advice.
Craig

Craig, too bad you weren't here yesterday, we had good 30+ MPH winds
with 45 MPH gusts.  Big wind day for sure.  Many guys out in Norwalk
CT.  Norwalk is a great place with good wind (for CT) and you can get
in either free or for $5.  It is Calf Pasture Beach and should not be a
very long ride.  I know people also sail on the Hudson river, but don't
know where.  There is likely sailing other place in NY but again, I
don't know where.  Norwalk is good so if in doubt, go to Norwalk.  If
you do go there, stay right in the park until you see some small sail
boards and shack on the water for the sailing school and the coast
guard building.  You can park in the lot and rig on the grass.

Good luck.

Thank you so much. I get newsreader on broadband but can't on dialup so
I didn't get this message until 10/5/05. Next time I'm in area I will
attempt to try Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, CT. Sounds like you might
have to be careful where you lay your boards (kidding). How many usually
sail there and are there restrictions on cars plated in NY? Do you
know the hours? Thanks again. If you are ever in Western New York we
have many great sailing sites in the area.
Craig.

In the summer on a good day you can get maybe 10-15 people down there.
When it's really windy on a cooler day you'll get about 5. The sailing
school there is pretty much closed for the winter.

I think during the summer it's $15 or $20 although I heard recently
they are only charging $5. They stop checking passes October 15. I
don't think there's any extra charge for out of state plates.
