 Hi,
after reading about Wind City Africa in windmag aug 99, we decided to go try
this interresting place this summer will be leaving for 2-3 months...we would
like to know if anyone could tell us about getting a place to stay..for that
long period, (with cooking facilities) how easy it is to get around w/o a
rental car... is the temperature nice or hot and sticky...
is there any reliable ATM machine in town ?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I passed by Essaouira last summer for three days in September and I really
enjoyed it. If you have loads of money, Essaouira has the world's most
beautiful hotel, the Villa Maroc. Reserve about two months in advance. Aside
from this place, accomodation is probably not that great unless you know
someone - an expatriate - who can help you find something. Still, don't
expect a modern kitchen, bathroom, etc. There are some nice restaurants
which are well known.

The temperature is nice and I don't remember it being that damp but it was
September.

I only windsurfed for an hour in the bay so I can't say much about that.
There must be really really cool spots a little further though. I thinks
there are a lot of windsurfers around! You can't drive into Essaouira but
you can park it outside the Medina. They aren't that expensive and I think
you would need if you want to travel to various, remote sailing spots away
from the people. Morrocans are really nice people but they will try to sell
you anything all the time. It's really hard to say no sometimes and they
don't know what that means anyway. So, it's nice to get away from the crowds
sometime - in fact, it's vital. My girlfriend was very calm and patient -
much more than I was - so it generally went okay. I'm kinda shy so I would
get fed up quickly. There are many quiet and very beautiful spots on the
road to Agadir... big waves too.

Morroco is BEAUTIFUL and when the wind doesn't blow you will have a hundred
places to go and a million things to do. You might even learn French though
Morrocans are surprisingly good at languages and speaking English will be no
problem.

I pretty sure there is a reliable ATM.

Have fun!

Jean-Charles

For ATM world-wide locations check out this site:

http://www.visa.com/pd/atm/

I couldn't find one in Essaouira but they are certainly in Casablanca, Rabat
and Marrakech.

I fly to Morocco once or twice a month and usually see great surf all along
the coast from Agadir up to Tangiers. Have fun!
