what Loose early planning board?

Post by Emmanuel Pon » Tue, 01 Feb 2000 04:00:00

hello!

I am looking for a board to replace my AHD 295.. I need something much
looser but still planning as early
So far my choices have been narrowed to the following choices:

STARBOARD CARVE 140
AHD FREE 70

I intend to use them as my marginal wind board (from 7.0 to 8.5).
They will be used mostly on lakes in planing AS WELL as subplanning
conditions for anything from cruising to freestyle.

Any advices??

Thanks,
Emmanuel...

Both of these are great boards. My husband was partial to the AHD and I
was in favor of the Carve, and we tried them both. He is 195 lbs and his
big sail is a 9.5 NP V8. I am 150ish lbs and used an 8.0 sail when I
tried both boards.
I liked the way the Carve handled, and it planed up quickly for me,
and turned beautifully. My husband happens to have all powerbox fins, so
he went with the AHD. Since I have 3 big boards already, all Tuttle box
fins, I went for a Carve 111.
I think the Starboard might be a bit less fragile than the AHD for the
same performance.
I guess maybe your fin stock and the best price would be the important
criteria.

Rob
I tried a Vision 130 and a 150 when I was in Bonaire last week. They
were certainly nice boards, but the AHD and the Carve still have them
beat for my money.

Hate to state the obvious, but if you're trule looking for a freeride,
it's hard to beat the performance/price package offered by the Techno
283.

I replaced my AHD 297 Free (detuned 295) with the Fanatic  Bee 289 and
never looked back.  Superior board in all respects.
