Survey says: damaged board- repair or replace?

Hi,

Quick question, I bought an expensive brand new board. The shipper damaged the
board in transit but it can be repaired. Since the board was insured, should I
have the board repaired (ding and a crack on the rail) with some money coming
to me from the carrier or should I forgo the money and ask for a new board?
What would you do? Also, how permanent are board repairs?

thanks!

I'd go with a new board. 1/ the repair will never be as strong as the
original board and will probably show. 2/ it will take an immediate drop in
value, i.e. express depreciation.

I'm curious, what is the board brand and model?  If you do opt for a new
board, wonder where the damaged board would go.  Regarding repair versus
getting a new one -- a crack and ding may be pretty minor for a self
repair -- may seem really worthwhile relative to the check the shipper may
be willing to write.  Getting a quote for a professional repair, including
shipping both ways would help determine a reasonable settlement.  I know
having a dinged new board with a less than invisible repair kind of hurts,
but the shipper may pay you enough to get used to it real quickly.  Besides,
the second ding shouldn't bother you as much.

Go for the claim! I doubt that the damage was that severe. Depending upon the
damage, you should file a claim for at least the- cost of repair plus about
$150  depreciation. I have never had a freight co. turn down a claim for
shipping damage. It is very common to have damage to boards during shipping-
your replacement may have the same problem.
