Sails on roof rack without damaging the sails?

: Hi i wonder how you get the sails tied on to the roof rack without
: damaging the sails totaly. Any tips ? ( i have always transported them
: in the car ...but i have a very small car now!)

My wife has stolen my minivan since we had our child. Now I am back to
using a Honda Accord sedan which has a folding rear seat. I can get
the boom bag and masts inside, but the sailbag is too big. I tie the
boards on the right side of the rack and tie the sailbag on the left
with a second set of straps. So long as you don't over tighten there
seems to be no damage. I put the luff sleeves forward and tight so
that the floppy part of the sail bag is in the back. Then I tie up all
the extra sail bag cloth so that nothing flaps around. It's helpful to
have some extra bungie cords to put around the sail bag to hold it
together so that nothing flaps around.
