Looking for Winter Sailing buddies in NY and North NJ

Hi,

I would like to hear from any sailors in the NY and Northern Jersey area
that do sailing down to 40/40.  I don't sail alone and it's hard to find
buddies when the hi temperature of the day is predicted to be only 42.

Mike,

Thanks for the tips, most of which I already follow. However, when it
gets extreme and there are no more recreational boats out there, I
wouldn't dream of going out without a buddy.

Hey guys -

Presumably you are a wave sailor, why the 40 knot limit?

I used to live in that area as well & sail year round (why limit yourself to
40 degrees?).  Go to Long Beach Island in NJ, you should find people sailing
 year round.

I also used to sail Cedar Beach NY in the winter, but hven't seen anyone
 sailing there for years.

Good luck.

That's Southern NJ and way out of my range.  When you've got a buddy
that you're going to meet then there's a pretty good chance that you've
not taken the drive for nothing.

Hi Charles,

Gee, now why didn't I think of trying that one on my wife? :-).

Well, as I write this, it's saturday at 12:00 and, as usual, the
forecast is not nearly what they predicted.  It's so crappy outside, I
can't motivate myself to drive 1.5 hours down to Sandy Hook for marginal
conditions.

Mark Frost used to be one of my die hard cold weather buddies but now
he's a Gorge animal.

I definitely have to do something tropical this year!

Ben,

You can always head to Seaside, NJ  it's an hour closer than LBI
and there's a good crew of locals that usually come out.  Though
last Sunday I sailed alone for an hour before heading in.  Just
pack your wife in the car, that's what I do.  I know she'll be of
no help if I get in trouble, but it will make it easier for the
police to identify the body if she's there.<g>

Ben, why don't you wait till the high of the day is predicted to be 35 and
below and then join with the ice sailing crowd in your area.  I understand New
Jersey has very good ice sailing.  We just started ice sailing here in Ontario
last weekend in Orangeville (1hr. NW of Toronto).

I understand the Freeskate is very popular in Jersey.  We are using the Snowfer
here because it works well on snow as well as ice.  I don't recall if there is
a web page for the freeskate but the snowfer can be researched at
www.snowfer.com.

Don't let the change of seasons stop you from sailing.  JUST CHANGE BOARDS!!

Joey,

There have already been a few days where the high was in the mid
thirties. I also do XC skiing and I'm thinking of trying snowboarding -
at least they make snow for that if there is none.

Ben,

If you want to try a FreeSkate, e-mail me and I'll give you a
shout when we head north.  Last year we got 4 days starting Dec
17, up at Lake Hopatcong, then the south winds came and we sailed
Christmas eve.  Should be way windy SW tommorrow.  Will be
sailing Seaside if you need a partner.
I've got a few snowboards for sale if you're interested, I used
to be a rep back in the late 80's.
