I finally made the big plung after a 10 year lay off (due to family and other
obligations.) My kids are in High School and I seem to have more time, plus
I'm hoping they will enjoy windsurfing too. My wife hates windsurfing but she
allowed me this purchase at 45 years of age as I was close to a mid life crises
of sorts. All those 10 years I have never been able to get windsurfing out of
my mind.
I just bought a 2000 8.5 sailworks "retro" sail and a good condition used
2000 starboard Go. I weigh 230 lbs. The mast is a fiberspare, 65% carbon and
recommended for the sail. The boom is a new gulftech carbon. With help from
this newsgroup this was the best and most durable rig I could purchase on a
budget. All items were bought on sale. If your wondering it cost me about
$1900.00. I could have gone to a swap meet and probably paid cheaper but I
wanted good quality stuff. There are no windsurfing shops in my area. I hope
I don't regret these purchases. I sail an inland lake mostly 10 to 25
mph...sometimes up to 30 mph. very light chop.
How much wind range can I expect for this board and rig? I plan to use an
adjustable out haul. I'm thinking about also buying a used 6.5 for higher
winds and to take in the ocean (not waves just ocean sailing). That sail could
be a 99 northwind 6.5 stilleto. Well....what are your thoughts? What would
you recommend? Also if you have some good " Go" stories please e-mail me as I
think this newsgroup is tired of hearing about the Go. Thanks.----
