What is the preferred weather setup for El Norte winds for the East Cape of
Baja? Any thoughts on post El Nino/ pre La Nina winter winds for Baja? And
if you had to pick a month which would it be for consistent wind; January,
February or March?

I heard La Ventana can be windier than Los Barriles, what's up with that?

Thanks for your help, now go sail.

You are right about it being windier than Los Barriles. The site I've
listed below explains the triple whammy that La Ventana has: El Norte +
Compression (funneling) from the large offshore Island + Sucking effect
of the large desert behind the launch-site.

Kirk will share his statistics with you as to the windiest month. But if
I remember right February 21st is the windiest day of the season, on
average.

You will love it! I camped there and sailed for 5 out of 6 days. Tell
him Kip sent you.

I spent a month and a half in La Ventana   last winter.  Last year the
season was November to mid March.  Januaray or Feburary probably are
your safeist bets.

La Ventana has more windy days but Los Barriles has bigger days.  You
would have a great time at either place.

La Ventana has a thermal action that generates more sailable days
because it isn't dependant on an El Norte.  I sailed 5.6 and 6.2 most
of the time with 2 or 3 4.5 days and several 5.0 days.  La Ventana is
a rural mexican fishing village.

Los Barriles gets bigger stuff when the El Norte blows but is more
dependant on an El Norte for sailable winds with nonsailable days
between El Nortes.  Los Barilles in a very americanized resort
community and is rather expensive.

Theoretically, El Nino reverses weather patterns and La Nina
accentuates weather patterns. If thats true, this should be a great
year for windsurfing in the traditionally windy locales.
