        Sub 8'0" board advice
        =====================

I'm 170lb, 6'0", a reasonably advanced sailor, but not expert.
(I can carve gybes easily, make most of them, and sail
comfortably in up to 35mph winds.  I don't jump much, through
choice due to an injury when jumping 4-5 years ago).

My small board is an 8'3" HiTech Gorge poly board, which I sail
with a 5.2m in the low 20s, up to 3.5m in the mid to high 30's.

Beyond that, even when I step down to a 3.1m sail, I'm pretty
much out of control.  Generally getting launched even in 1-2'
        chop.

Maybe I've reached the limits of my sail and board skills and
just need to get better at jumping in control and handling
very small sails in overpowered conditions.  Or MAYBE, I need
an excuse to buy a smaller board......

So, I'm looking for advice on a board size to complement my
8'3". with a little overlap.  I'd like to be able to use the
board more than the 2-3 times we get 40+ winds here on Cape
Cod in Mass, maybe starting at about ~35.  My first thoughts
tend towards a 7'10 or 7'9" HiTech or similar.

My obvious questions are for anyone my size/weight and sailing a
board that size are, in what kind of wind range and with what sail
sizes do you use the board?  Do you have other (bigger) boards?
What size?  What fin size/make?  And of course, recommendations
        on boards themselves.

Any help, advice, discussion, would be appreciated.

my reaction is that if you're getting launched its not the board thats to
blame, my experience with a 7'10" board is the need for total control as
there's little room for error. I'd say look somewhere else for a solution.
