Gun sails - how good are they?

Gun sails - how good are they?

Post by Chris Stephe » Tue, 05 Sep 1995 04:00:00

I know this has been raised before, but I can't remember what was said so
I'm asking again...

How good are Gun sails? Apparently their sailor Roddy Lewis won the Tarifa
speed event, and that they have just got the first 3 places in both men's and
women's events at Sotavento, so they must work!

I've just bought a Speed Slalom 5.8 and it looks really good (on land, anyway
- haven't sailed it yet). How does it compare with more expensive brands? Why
is it 100 uk pounds cheaper than equivalents from Tushingham or Gaastra?
What's happening on the legal front? (I hear Gun are threatening legal action
in Germany if the magazines keep on giving in to pressure from other
manufacturers and refusing to test or advertise Gun sails.)

Let's hear from you.

Yes, they do!

I have a Speed Slalom 4.6 and it's great. Exellent quality and performance.
My next two sails (a 6.3 and one in the 3.8-range) will also be Gun's.

I guess, that's mainly because they sell mail-order and thus leave out the
dealers profits.

Hmm, dunno! They do advertise and test Gun sails in the german 'Surf' magazine.
Although tests of Gun-sails are relatively rare.
