ck55 in VX3?

Will I get OK performance in a 7.4/7.8 VX3 using a CK 55 mast? I don't care
too much about the extra weight, but I'm worried about the mast curve and
'reflex response.'   Now, I'm using a on old CK75 (MCS 30) and it's a bit too
stiff for the vx3- it's rotating with difficulty. Is there a way to get the
cams rotate more smoothly?  Maybe wd40?   I can't afford a CK95 or a new CK
75.  Anyplace selling used CK's out there?

Greetings:

Friends had problems rigging the VX3 with anything but the CK95.

The cams tend to slip off the mast and rigging is a real pain.

I would look at your nearest swap meet, a buddy of mine sold his 2 year old CK95
for around $80.

Good luck.

Problems with the cams popping off occur with any mast.  The rotation of the
sail should not be hindered by the mast.  A ck 55 should work fine, yeah it may
not be as snappy pumping or in the gusts but it will last longer.

I have used a CK35  in a VX for a while and it had no problems with rotations
.  If the cams are poping off while sailing, you might just need a little more
downhaul.  If they are poping off while rigging, you need to get use to sliding
each cam down the mast.  After the sail is spread out as far as possible
without downhauling, begin to down haul slowly and the cams should slide down
the mast.   If one of the cams pops off while down hauling, just push the
batten near the luff  and  twist the  cam  back into place.

Gimme a break,  it's not like I'm asking if it's ok to put a slotted weed fin in a
mike's lab, or an ampro wave mast in a Z1...
Two hundred bucks is a lot of money for a student.  And just because I can't afford
a Z1 or an AVS it doesn't mean I can't smoke most of the rich old guys...

For the orginal question my answer is... It will work fine, however
you will feel some slowness when bumping. Personally i'm using 7.8m2 VX3 with
Fiberspar 3000 490mast which is even less state of art mast than CK55.

Only promblem is feeding the mast after last batten, because uppermost camber
is very narrow.

Have a nice surfing
