Advice for small board

Advice for small board

Post by Stephane Lepag » Tue, 26 May 1998 04:00:00

I am a lake/reservoir sailor (Lake champlain and the Quebec Laurentians)
of average talent (I am at the "jibe 8/10 but rarely carving all the
way" stage).

I just bought a Mistral Explosion 295 and a Gaastra Flow3X 8.0m, which
are an absolute BLAST for average lake sailing condition (a little
whitecap here and there, I guess about 10-12kts, nothing exciting....),
on which conditions I find myself planing 80% of the time, whereas I
would have been schlogging along on my AstroRock - Gaastra 3x 6.5

Now I would like to expand my quiver downwards with a 5.5 sail (yup,
it's NOT the gorge up here...) and a smaller board in the 265-270 range
for those "happening days"...

I would like to stick with what's available locally for me (Bic,
Mistral, F2) and I would greatly appreciate advice on what board would
better suit me.

I weight 140lbs, not much of a drag racer, I like the wave aspect of ws,
but there aren't much waves up here...

Thanks in advance!

If you like the explosion the Electron or new name for it is
Screamer somewhere around 263 length
You will get the same Mistral feel and it works good from 4.5 to 5.6
It will take a bigger sail but I dont like it I just go to bigger board
