This is the question :  Is Constant curve  the right system for North Sails '94 ?

Appreciate any answer by email.

Thank in advance

roberti

my current north sails range in age from 91 to 94.  here's my experience:
'91  6.4  Infinity  rigs best with OEM flex top (i use space + race tech)
'94  5.7  Katana    didn't rig well with recommended mast; finally settled
on a "too short" flex top w nonOEM 14" tip extension
'93  5.0  Infinity  rigs well with an experimental blue label Fiberspar or
w OEM flex top (2 piece; space tech top & bottom)
'94  4.2  Zeta      seems to rig more-or-less equally well with flex top or
'93  3.7  Zeta        constant curve; this may be due to this model (Zeta)
or relatively small size - as i have, i use flex top

volker put it well in a response he recently gave,"...if you are not exactly
into professional, expert matchracing, don't worry about getting the perfect
fit mast for each of your sails."  to which i would only add - be willing to
experiment; try different masts in a store, or what friends have to offer on
the water.  if you must evaluate dry, after rigging, hold the mast tip down,
to the ground, (under a car tire will do) then step on the mast base & press
it to the ground; as the boom holds the mast up in the middle, the resulting
flex & twist of the mast will approximate the sail's wind loading, so allows
you to evaluate what the rig will look like on the water.  this technique is
especially good to see if you have enough down-haul (many rig too little).

Nope!  Actually, it depends on which sail.  It seems that North decided to
move TOWARD CC in 94 and actually finished the move in 95.  In general,
the smaller sails are CC, the mid range could go both ways, and the big
stuff is definitely flex top.  Remember, that North did us all a
disservice by designing their 1 through 5 curve system (i.e. it was not so
clear cut as CC vs. FT).  You really need to look at the IMCS rather than
looking at CC vs. FT.

Wrong, when I look at the North information sheets, the small sails are
FT and the big ones are CC. I just bought a North Spectro 7.0m2 ('95) and
it is CC.
