I sailed a finless board back to the beach in Tarifa once (near the
point at Bolonia). I was surprised how well it worked, actually. The
wide stance with the font foot near the mast base may feel weird at
first, but due to the side-slip, you're not overly powered. Not sure if
I want to try that again though...

Well, if you're in a relatively safe place (like Napeague) it's not a
bad thing to try.   It's a good skill to get familiar with when getting
home doesn't hang in the balance.
