Will's reaction:

Oh my God.  Oh my God.  Tell me I'm not missing this.  Please
tell my I'm not missing this.  I can't be missing this.  I'm
not missing this.  Ha.  Haha.  Haha.  Hahahaha.  (Starts

I expect a full report from those who made it out (and managed to get
back in :)

Thanks,

You're welcome. Since I broke my fin box on Friday, the wind has done
nothing but get better every day. So I assume there is a causal
connection, and that anyone who wants the wind to stay around should
simply prevent me from getting back on the water, at which point I'm
sure the calm will return. What, me bitter?

I made it out to cyote at about 2:00PM on 4/21 (tuesday). It was blowing 30 gusting to 39. I got blown out of the water with my 3.9. I could barely hold on to my 3.4. I gave up after a few reaches and getting slammed about 30 times by about 4:30.

The popular sound at cyote above the noise of the wind was the sound of the `twock' of someone getting slammed. Several boards (not attached to sails) including mine took off across the parking lot. One board blew from by the water over the embankment to the rigging area where it hit a trash can and stopped.

Awesome day!!!!!!!!!!!

This is really strange.  I kept checking the Berkeley Marina
from Evans Hall with my binoculars, and from the visual clues
I could get (conditions of water surface, speed and angle of sailboats,
number of windsurfers in the water and their speed), I'd say the wind
was never stronger than 10-15 knots.  Not enough to make it worthwhile
to get ready and drive down.  Can anybody confirm my estimate?

I could see REALLY large swells breaking outside the GG Bridge,
and maybe Crissy Field was windy too (I cannot tell, it's behind
the eucaliptuses), but conditions here were disappointing.  It's
strange, I thought there would be a stronger correlation between
SFO and Berkeley.

Does anybody know what Rio Vista was like on Tuesday?

Luigi

Yesterday was nothing less than epic.  IMHO, the best day in my 5 years
of sailing in the SF Bay.  It blew 3.5 to 4.0 from 1PM until dark
reaching a peak average wind of 46MPH (SFO report) at 7PM.  Most of the
big sailors were on 3.7s and 4.0s while the smaller sailors were on 3.2s
and 3.5s.  The chop and swells were close together and confused but
provided 2 to 4 foot ramps and opportunities to launch every 50 ft or
so.

There were a lot of good sailors out.  Didn't see any loops but did
see some tabletops, helicopter attempts and one handed flare jibes in
40MPH winds.

On the bright side for those who didn't make it, if you didn't have
an 8'6" board or smaller and a 3.2 to 4.0M sail, you would have been
miserable.

Just got a summer job down there and I was wondering if I should bring my
stuff down there.  Can anyone tell me how short boarding is out in and
around AUSTIN TX?

Thanks
Dan

Tuesday was quite a day at Coyote !! And so was the "ride" home.
I arrived at about 3:00 to a seen of mass confusion as people were
rigging every small sail in sight.  Ii was easy to tell it was going to
be VERY windy, people were*** onto trees and cars to keey from being
blown down!  I rigged both my 3.5 and 4.2 just in case.  Rigging both
defore going out is much easier.  Had to shield my eyes from the blowing
sand.  First went out on the 4.2, it took about 15 seconds to find out
"NOT", to big.  Sailed the 3.5 for about 1 1/2 hours.  Major swells!
A good 5-6 ft some of them.   The gusts were impressive.

It seemed to back off some.  Came in and took the 4.2 out.  Not to bad
this time.  Sailed another hour or so.  Then on the last run in it
REALLY kicked in.  Way overpowered on the 4.2.  Could have used my
3.1 most likely.  It took me 5 minutes of waiting before I could
carry my stuff up to the beach.  Everyone needed help just to get
out.  The whole area filled in at what seemed like 35-40 plus.  Dust,
rocks, and rigs were flying everywhere.  The best was a board and sail
that was tied to the light pole at the back footstrap.  Nothing but
the tip of the fin was touching the ground!!  The whole thing was in the
air.  The most wind at Coyote in quite sometime.

As for the trip home., my van quite and I had to be towed. $110 buchs!
But well worth the sailing, and glad it didn't quite on the way up!

I didn't sail Coyote Tuesday 4/21 as I'd hurt my foot from great sailing on
Friday and Saturday (overpowered on my 4.5/ Challange Flex).  I recovered
sufficiently to sail Wed and the reports from the regulars were that guys
my size were getting hammered Tues on 4.0s.  Boards were blowing off the beach,
over the embankment and into cars in the parking lot.  One friend (good enough
to do tripple duck jibes) said he removed the lower batten on his 4.0 making it
about a 3.6 and he was almost comfortable, but was getting 10-12 ft in the
air on accidental jumps.  Occasional liquid smoke was observed (40-45 knot
gusts).

I now have Gorge Jump pads on my CFlex so I hope to see some action soon with
my 3.9 which I've only sailed once last year when we had a similar 3.5 day.
