Maui Trip Report

Hi,

This is a brief report on my trip to Maui from 7/2 to 7/16/94.
In general, the wind was cranking and I was overpowered and
out of control.  Three times I was launched so hard it pulled
the harness lines off the booms.  Anyway, I'm 6'1" and 185 pounds
and am an intermediate sailor.

We sailed 7 days at Kihei with 1 day on a 6.0, 2 on a 5.0, 3 on a
4.3, and 1 day when I wouldn't go out on a 3.6.  A 200 pounder
was out on a 3.5 on a 7'10" board (and he's much better than I)
and was way powered.  We also sailed 3 days at Kanaha with 1 day
on a 5.0 and 2 on a 4.3.  We got skunked 2 days (although it came
up one of those days about 5:30 or 6:00) and just stayed in one
day.

It definitely seemed much windier than the same period last year
so whoever is headed that way should have a good time.  We got a
good laugh from the ads saying how Kanaha is good for beginners
because of the "gentle" trade winds.

Aloha
