dry suit repair?

Post by Alan W. Dough » Sun, 10 Nov 1996 04:00:00

I live in Minnesota. Yesterday, the leg seal of my drysuit split open.
It was already over my ankle, and I was adjusting it around my bootie
when the seal split wide. It now has a curvy crack several inches long.
It was no fun derigging a dry sail in the cold wind, after having not
sailed a foot. The drysuit was made by Intensity Wetsuits.
My questions are, Can these seals (latex) be replaced? Seems to be a
glued on cuff.
Is there something you can condition the***with to make it last
longer?
Is there a company out there building a suit with better seals?

TIA             Al

I had that happen to the***neck seal on my Bare Polar Dry suit last
year.  I found replacement seals at the Colorado Kayak Co.  There number is
1-888-COKAYAK (1-888-265-2925).  It was no big deal to glue it onto the suit
with some Aquaseal.

My suit came with conditioner to put on the seals, but silly me, I never used
it!

You can get***seals and glue at Canoe/Kayak shops. Stretch the cuff over
something to make it easier to glue on the new one.

I had exactly the same thing happen to my Bare Polar Drysuit neck
seal last year also. I suspect they're using a cheap grade of latex,
which is what the person who repaired it indicated also. I've used
the same type of seals on my diving drysuit for 6-7 years and never
had a problem like that. i LIKE MY Bare, but they may have a problem.

Yup, any dealer should have them or be able to get them.  Get some wetsuit
cement at the same time, it'll work better than aqua-seal.  Don't try to
remove the old seal completely, leave a bit to glue the new one over.

Yup, same dealer should have Seal Saver.  That'll do it.

:
I doubt it, I would bet that there are very few manufacturers of***
seals in the world, so that most drysuit makers would get them from the
same place.
