Reasons to wear a helmet:
1) If you get hit on the head and you become unconscious, you
will drown. If you're wearing a helmet, you're not likely to get
likely to get knocked unconscious.
2) A brightly colored helmet makes you more visible to other sailors
(windsurfers, barges and otherwise) when you're down. Even the best
sailors break a mast and go down, once in a while.
3) A helmet that covers the ears prevents you from breaking an
ear drum if you slam the side of your head on the water.
4) A Helmet costs a lot less than 1 emergency room visit, or even an
ambulance ride. Even at retail prices, a good helmet costs about
$50. My Protec helmet cost me $35.
5) A helmet holds your sunglasses on by grabbing on to the strap
that holds your gauranteed-to-break-apart, wrap-around Oakley
shades.
6) Wearing a helmet dosen't make sailing any more difficult. My
helmet weighs about a pound and dosen't impair visibility or
movement *at all*.
7) And last, but not least, a helmet protects you from sunburn on
forhead and scalp.
