97/98 freeride boards, what to get?

Post by Glenn Kolber » Tue, 16 May 2000 04:00:00

I'm in the market for a freeride board, and don't want to spend top$.
My budget will possible cover the 97/98 models, but need some suggestions.
Main usage will be in chopped waters up to small waves. Practising gybes,
and
have fun on the plane. I still struggle some with my waterstarts, so a board
in the 100-120 liter range would probably be required.
Is theere any 97/98 models that especially is worth searching for?
Is it possible to combine some volume in the end with comfortable
planing/riding in small waves? (don't necesarily look for the awsome width
of the new Star boards)

thanks
Glenn

Check out the F2 Ride series...the 277 Ride (optimal sail: 6.0, but will sail
5.0-7.0) and the 282 Ride (bump those numbers up a meter).

97/98 freeride boards, what to get?

For 97/98 freerides, the Screamer 278 (103liters) is pretty unbeatable.
If 99 is an option, the Flow 276 (~100 liters) and Flow 284 (~115
liters) - both of which are still being produced - would be great as
well, depending on which size you want. That's based on your desire to
get into some three-dimensional water (none of the freerides are true
waveboards, but they will help you get your feet wet in waves if you
don't want to buy a dedicated waveboard).

If you reconsider and want more of a classic b&j-style board, these
would still be good options, but then you should also extend your list
to cover the F2 Rides in the corresponding sizes. They tend to be a
little faster and livelier, but not quite as nice to push through turns
or deal with heavy chop or the occasional foray into surf.

Be sure to find out about the different constructions offered for the
years you're looking at - don't go out there jumping the lighter
versions of these boards too much.

Thanks Philip, unfortunately you live to far away.
The 282 Ride seems like a fun board to ride.
Just what I'm looking for.
