Finger Lakes, Presque Isle

I'm trying to find out about windsurfing in the Finger Lakes Region of New
York, or Presque Isle near Erie, Pa. Basically, trying to do a little
vacation from Cleveland, and didn't want to drive excessively far since
we'll have a lot of kids in tow, making a drive of say, over six hours,
seem rather daunting. I'm an intermediate flat water big board windsurfer,
looking to improve, and presently the only one in the family doing the
sport. So any regions that offers activities to keep the nonsurfers happy
are definite contenders. Anyone have any knowledge about these areas?
Thanks

The fingerlakes can be good with south winds.  One of the nicer ones for
beginners and intermediates  is Lake Canandaigua.  At the Northern tip
there is a grassy launch and shallow water for about 100 or so feet.  The
bottom is sandy.  There is a windsurfing store within walking distance
where you can buy, rent and get lessons.

The winds tend to be a little light in the summer, But it can be a lot of
fun just cruising around on a long board.

enjoy your vacation

I regularly go to Presque Isle from Stuebenville Ohio.  The windurfing
there is pretty good.  On the tip of the penninsula is Sunset beach.
There are no lifeguards there - it's for kite flyers, windsurfers, jet-skiers,
etc.  The wind is usually pretty good there.  If the waves are too big there
go to the east pier - on the east side of the outer penninsula, about halh
a mile after the road becomes two-way.
Erie is good for families.  Just last weekend I took my three kids
there.  They like Beach 6 and Budny beach.  We also spent a day at Water-
World park - all sorts of water slides.  There's plenty of motels close
to the penninsula, but be sure to make a reservation at least a week in
advance.
