Sail range for lake Isabella?

Sail range for lake Isabella?

Post by Kurt Grese » Wed, 07 Jun 1995 04:00:00

I'm heading up to Lake Isabella, CA, but need to get sails.  Does
anyone know what a good sail range for 2 sails would be?  I'll be
sailing a 103 litre board and weigh about 155 pounds.

Any comments/input greatly appreciated.

You should have a 6.0 and at least a 5.0.  The wind has been blowing about
30mph all week so a smaller sail would be nice but your board would
probably be blown off the water anyway.

Re: the so-called hot shots at Isabella.  Good sailors don't run into
people, especially on a lake, like last Saturday.  Maybe some embarassing
comments to those concerned might help.  Especially from SC.

4.0 - 6.0 should power you up on 90% of the occassions. Probably 5-5.5
will be good for you Try Call of the wind pager forecast Call 1800
windcall for up to the minute forecast and info about pager, if curious. I
have hiked kyaked,,river rafted etc all over Isabella Lake area, since '79
good this time of year but runnig out of camping places as the snow run
off raises the water level. May not be any camping in one month their
according to Wayne Boyd's estimation. But theirs always alternative areas.
Have a good time and watch out for inexperienced hot shots not yielding
right of way for starboard etc. BAD problem here- No body learns right of
way anymore Just yield and sail away from them. Talk about it calmly with
them on a need to know basis, but if they are stubborn, just leave them
alone, no fights please keep cool June gets hot up their at the end. but
weathers weird this year. Who knows?  I love Isabella Lake :-) Scott

Geez, you know I just heard that the guy who ran into the sailor actually
punched him when the guy demanded repayment for his torn wetsuit!  That
scene really upset a friend of mine who saw it.  What makes it worst of
all is that it was such a great weekend.  Lets keep it mellow out there
guys--there is plenty of lake for everyone!!!
