Moving to Chicago-- where to sail

Moving to Chicago-- where to sail

I'm moving to Chicago soon.  It seems easy to find sites for N, NE, S, SE
winds.  I'm interested in knowing good L. Michigan sites for NW wind
(somewhere in Indiana, I guess) or SW winds (all the way to Michigan, maybe)
or Lakes of decent size for the westerly direction.  What directions are
good for Wolf Lake?  I sailed Silver Lake once-- kind of disappointing.

Moving to Chicago-- where to sail

Wolf Lake in Hammond Indiana is good for all directions, but northeast
wind causes a major wind shadow. NW wind is good there.
Any windy cross or on-shore wind is good on the lake but then you must
contend with a difficult wave to wind ratio if the wind has a long enough
distance to build wave height - shoulder high is not uncommon.  So South
winds work okay in say Evanston or Michigan City.  Also, ask at Windward
Sports on Clark Street in Chicago.  They are a very good source of info.
Toward the end of June we have a windy week and then maybe one or two
windy days in August.  Don't expect much wind in July or August.
September and October get increasingly better. Luck. Bob.
