Windsurfing in the PALM COAST / DAYTONA BEACH area?

I'm moving to this area of Florida and haven't a clue what conditions
are like or where good sailing areas are.  Is there any help out there?
Thanks!

Generally, anywhere along the Intercoastal Waterway is sailable as long
as you can find a place to park & get to the water (i.e along the
causeways, parks on the river,...). There is also the whole length of
beach on the Atlantic Ocean to sail from if you are up to it.

As far as where people in the area usually sail, I can only speak for the
area just south of Daytona Beach. You can sail on the Intercoastal right
behind Sandy Point Progressive Sports (904-756-7564) on Rt 1, just north
of the Port Orange causeway as well as at a little park on the north side
of the causeway. The wave/ocean sailors usually sail at Ponce Inlet, from
the park on the north side of the inlet (take A1A south from Port Orange
til it ends), however this is definately an Experts Only spot due to the
strong currents and wide conditions. Many people also sail right off the
beach just north off the inlet (in southerly winds).

Your best bet is to just drive around, check out these places & stop in
at Sandy Point to talk to them & get a feel for the area & conditions.
However, summer is usually the off-season for shortboarding, unless we
get a tropical storm.
